The Institute registered as a society, later converted to a University by the Government of Odisha.

The International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIIT-BH or IIIT_BBSR) is a University Grants Commission (UGC) recognised university. It was established in the year 2006.
The campus can be found in Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar. The campus houses laboratories, classrooms, hostel, library, sports facilities, living areas for faculty and auditorium.

IIIT Bhubaneswar was established by the government of Odisha in the year 2006. Operations started in the year 2007. Its foundation stone was laid down by then President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The institute is managed by the governing body which consists of the representative of the government of Odisha, educationist and leaders from the IT industry.

Academics

The institute offers undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (PhD) programs. B. Tech in various streams like information technology, electrical and electronics, computer science, etc. is provided under UG courses.
Admissions in UG courses are on the basis of JEE Mains rank. 50% of seats are reserved for students belonging to Odisha. 
IBM partnered with the institute to offer internships as well as training sessions to the students. They help the students to create and work in real-life software. Capgemini undertook the task of providing study material and various tools for the students.

Infrastructure

IIIT Bhubaneswar is located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on an area of 50 acres. The classrooms are equipped with computers and projectors. The institute houses labs such as Database Lab, Computer Architecture, Engineering Drawing, VLSI lab, MATLAB, Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, and Java Development Lab. Ubuntu as well as Windows Operating system is installed in the computers. Professors encourage the students to take part in open source development. 24X7 internet facility is also provided both in the campus and at hostels. 
The library at IIIT Bhubaneswar is vast and varied. It has a huge collection of books, journals and magazines. IIIT Bhubaneswar is a member of IEEE Xplore Digital Library, IEEE Computer Society and many more.  

Library

The library has a huge collection of books to suit the taste of all the students. The reference books collection houses books on the subject of fiction, non-fiction, humanities, technical and encyclopaedias. The library also subscribes to journals covering IEEE, Elsevier, Wiley collection, McGraw Hill, J-Gate, ACM and Springer. 

Hostel

The institute is fully residential. The hostel comprises eight blocks of nine stories. Boys and girls are provided with separate accommodations. The hostel has a capacity of 1400 students. 

Classrooms

There are varied classrooms to address the different needs of the students. There are classes with fixed furniture like galleries. There are classrooms with flexible furniture to create any required layout. There are even classrooms with no furniture to accommodate a dynamic audience. The classrooms have a capacity anywhere between 30 and 300. The classrooms are equipped with all the modern facilities like audio, video and projectors.

Admission

IIIT Bhubaneswar is one of the most prestigious government funded technical institute in India. At present, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. 

  • For admission into B.Tech candidates will be required to showcase JEE Main Ranks.
  • They will be shortlisted according to JoSAA rank. 
  • 50% of the seats in B.Tech is reserved for Odisha students.
  • 50% of seats belong to “Open to All” quota.
  • In B.Tech counselling is conducted by CSAB or JoSSA.
  • For students of Odisha, IIIT Bhubaneswar conducts its own counselling.
  • GATE is used for admissions in M.Tech.
  • IIIT Bhubaneswar also conducts entrance test for admission into M.Tech.
  • Admission in a doctoral programme is based on the performance in Written Test, Literature presentation and review and Interview.

B.Tech Admission

Start of Registration: Second week of May
Last date for Registration:Second week of June
Document verification for students of Odisha: Third week of June
B. Tech is offered under 5 specialization. The intake is 60 students in each specialization. The specializations are CSE, EEE, IT, Computer Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. 
Candidates must clear the X and XII Board minimum marks criteria for admission. Selection will be based on the marks obtained in JEE Mains. Stages of admission: 

  • Filling of online application. 
  • Document verification
  • Seat allotment as per JoSSA
  • Seat acceptance, and
  • Reporting at the institute for final admission.

M.Tech Admission

The start date for application: First week of April 
Last date for application submission: Last week of April 
Date of written test: Last week of May  – First week of June 
Commencement of Classes: Second week of July 
In the field of Computer Science and engineering, the institute provides four specializations, two in case of Electronics and Communication, and one specialization in case of Electrical Engineering. 
Candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree from some recognized university to be eligible to sit in the exam. The admission is based on GATE score as well as test score conducted by the institute. If the candidate has a valid GATE score, he/she need not appear for the entrance test. 

PhD Admission

Start Date of Registration: First week of April 
End Date of Registration: Last week of April 
Date of Written Test: Last week of May – First week of June 
Commencement of Classes: Second week of July 
PhD is offered in the field of Engineering, Humanities, and Management. Candidates must have a valid Master’s degree from some recognized university to be eligible to appear for the entrance test. A written test, as well as the interview, is conducted by the institute for admission.
