The institute should recognize indelible translational research areas with a constant support of minuscule increments.

It is a well-known fact that an educational institute is ranked based on the quality of research papers that it publishes. Since IIT Jammu has been just recently established, the count of research papers published by the institute is not very significant but the institution places immense focus on it nevertheless. The research agenda is that the research work published by the institute should be translational, realistic, futuristic and ambitious while remaining firmly rooted to the ground realities. Also, the research should create leaders with entrepreneurial skills.
Higher education institutions play an important role in shaping communities’ development. Their activities can lead to raised wages and productivity allowing countries to make impressive strides in accelerating social, economic and scientific advancements and breakthroughs. Therefore, it is necessary for such institutes to involve themselves in community outreach-based research to contribute to a strong knowledge based economy.  To achieve this objective IIT Jammu aims to closely be connected to the other IITs as well as the community for sharing the resources and knowledge. To connect to these communities, the institute tries to reach out to the to know them better. To do that, it should connect with the public at large to know about the region and find solutions to the existing problems. The Institute should reach out to the state and local government officials for conducting workshops from different levels to understand the regional issues for exploring possible solutions. It should also monitor the schools to impart technical low-level knowledge to school kids to create excitement and curiosity in budding gems of the country.
